Dear All Readers and Followers,
Thank you for all tuning in weekly and reading my blogs, podcast, videos, and more that I have posted over the months this semester. I have never maintained a full functioning blog like this before and it has been a real joy. I plan to start the blog up once again in the next week once all with finals and graduation have come a complete. I will start to continue to post weekly blogs and posts on movies that I watch over the summer and into the fall of 2014. My twitter and tumblr names may change but I will inform all if something like this is going to happen.
I hope everyone found joy and also new movies to watch over the web, on Netflix, Redbox and ONDemand. I feel there is a lot of movies out there that people have yet to view because so many actors are shifting to independent and non mainstream films. Movies are all over the place, you just need to know where to find them.
Right now I am currently in the process of writing, directing, producing, and filming a documentary “Angels Wear Black – The men of Trooper 4” which follows around the Medivac aviation division of the Maryland State Police. It is a intense joyful thriller filled with action, information, and unheard emotion from different departments in the crew. Look forward to the release via youtube and wordpress in the next week or so. I will keep all updated.
Once again have a great rest of the semester and best luck to all!! This is JT Landon temporary signing off until next time!
“Snitch” (2013) is a American crime drama film that was directed by Ric Roman Waugh who actually directed another movie that I have seen called “Felon” (2008) that was really good. The movie stars Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson, Barry Pepper, Jon Bernthal, Michael Kenneth and Susan Sarandon. Now at first I was not sure about this movie, I get real questioned when “the Rock” is the main character but I have to admit once again he pulls it off pretty well and does a great job.
John Matthews (the Rock) is a divorced father who owns a construction company and also has a new wife and newly baby born child while his last wife is single, stressed and their first son who is about 18 lives with her. So there was conflict number one starting with all the drama in the households and between the two families. Which is never good, really more so in a divorce because it takes out a lot of communications and interaction of both parties that is much needed if they want to resolve and heal the problem or issue.
Jason (the son) agrees to let his buddy (a childhood long friends since the crib) to send a package in the mail to his house in return for some free samples of whatever it is he is mailing. It turns out its about 7000 pills of E, under this bag of pills was what looked to be a tracking device……BOOOM! The door is kicked and and raided by DEA agents. Jason books it out of his window and take off running down the street through backyards. At first you think he is going to manage to get away but he got surrounded.
This movie is actually inspired by true events, and portrays a light on our judicial system here in the US and shows how many loop holes or ways out of a situation. Some that are fair and some that are not, some that may cause you to risk your life all to clear your sons name! Watch today on Netflix or ONDemand ! Thanks — J.T.
“Bad Words”(2013) is a black comedy film directed by Jason Bateman and also starring him as the main character of the movie. This was Bateman’s first movie directed and I have to say it was a good one, had me laughing out loud the whole entire film. The movie also stars Rachel Harris, Allison Janney, Kathryn Hahn, and Philip Baker and also one of the younger actors that has roles in such movies like “Lone Survivor” and “Jack and Jill” who was super funny to me the whole movie as well is actor Rohan Chand. The movie released at the 2013 Toronto Film Festival in September and then released in March of 2014 in the US.
Bateman plays Guy Trilby who is a 8th grade middle school drop who comes back for one last chance of glory and enters himself in the National Quill Spelling Bee. Through various rules and standings Bateman can enter as a adult due to his not passing the 8th grade which pretty much everyone frowned upon. It was loaded with comedy and lots of bad words and crude humor. So if you get offended easily this may not be the movie for you. As for the acting between Jason Bateman and Rohan Chand really make this movie between the two of them I could not stop laughing the whole time. I was very undecided if I wanted to watch this movie but my buddy told me it was super funny so I gave it a try and it was well worth it.
I like Jason Bateman a lot every role he always plays is this certain energy that he upholds and plays very well in every movie he is in. It is awesome that this was directed by him and also his very first film he directed. I have always wondered how those sets would be, with a actor and director being the same person. Overall great movie and a must see ! Thanks !– J.T.
“Jobs” (2013) Drama biographical film that was directed by Joshua Stern that is based on the life of Steve Jobs. The film takes you from 1974 at Reed College to 2001 where he introduces the first generation I-pod that changed technology forever. The movie was shot in the United States and also India, actors Ashton Kutcher the founder of Apple (playing Jobs) and Josh Gad as the co founder (Steve Wozniak). As a Apple product buyer I was very excited to watch this movie, even though some critics kinda shot down the movie in reviews but that didn’t stop me.
The movie starts in 2001 where Jobs introduces the I-Pod at what they called “Apple Town Hall meeting” and this whole time your seeing this happen from a very wide angle camera shot so you think your almost watching actual footage of jobs. I mean just from actually watching these releases on TV it seemed like it was actually Steve Jobs and maybe they just pulled this from old footage and used it and finally they zoom in after he has been talking and its Ashton Kutcher ! I was truly surprised it was him and not actually Jobs, the body movement and voice and presentation was just so pin point accurate I was amazed and yet happy that they did not over play the part and also under sell the part of playing jobs. It was spot on.
The whole story behind the Apple Inc. is truly a aspiring story of a man who refused to give up on his dreams. Jobs actually dropped out of Reed College because it was to expensive however with permission of the dean (played by James Wood) he was still allowed to take and attend classes which is really cool and would never happen now a days with how people are. Jobs leaves for India where he takes LSD everyday and that is where history and Apple was made.
Great movie with a lot of history and unknown aspects of Apple, it is now out on DVD and Netflix so there is no way you can’t see it. Hope you get to see this movie and enjoy it how I did. And also appreciate your Apple product or products ! Thanks you Appleheads! — J.T.
“The Change Up” (2011) comedy body switch film that was directed and filmed by David Dobkin who also directed “Wedding Crashers”. The film stars Jason Bateman, Ryan Reynolds, Leslie Mann, and Olivia Wilde, all the actors are in comedy films so I did not have a doubt that this would not live live up to my expectations. I known it is three years old but I just saw it on TV tuesday night and it had me laughing so hard through out the whole movie.
Bateman and Reynolds are best friends but live two completely different lives from each other, Bateman a lawyer with a wife, kids, house, the American dream. And then there is Reynolds a aspiring actor, living in a huge open room apartment that resembles a college a dorm, with having sex with different ladies of the night according to the week day coming over, and so on. However they are both jealous of each others lifestyle believe it or not. One night they go out for some drinks at the bar and by the end of the night they are pretty wasted and pee into a fountain at the same time in the park and happen to wish they had each others lives. It is all down hill from here…….
Movie is very funny, each actor brings there own light to the film and keeps it going at a good pace the whole film. Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds were very well with each other and the body switch was perfect for the two of them because of how opposite they were and then acting like the other being spot on. This movie can be found pretty much anywhere and is still airing on TV this week so try and watch this ! Lots of hidden humor and unpredictable events that occur throughout the film like the baby changing scene in the beginning…
Hope you get to see this film and enjoy, laugh, and tell another friend to watch it ! Thanks for reading ! Have a good one. — J.T.
“This is the End” (2013) comedy film that was written and directed by both Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg which was also both of their first times directing. The film had which I would say one of the most comedic casts ever, starring Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson who all play a version of themselves in a post apocalypse Hollywood LA. There are also many other people you’ll see in the film but are not main characters like Micheal Cera and Emma Watson. This movie was such a hit it was released twice in one year. I never stopped laughing the whole entire time I watched this movie, every line and every event that happens in this movie is just so out there and funny. The cast I feel is what makes this movie. These guys always play in movies together and have this certain vibe that they can all play off of each other.
Jay Baruchel who plays himself, is off to visit his buddy in LA (Seth Rogen) to go to a open house party hosted by yours truly James Franco. Baruchel is not really feeling the Hollywood lifestyle and wants a break from the party. Rogen and him walk to the store down the road to buy some cigs when the ground starts shaking and breaking and then blue like lights start shooting out from the sky! And its all down hill from there…..
You have to like this set of guys and their style of humor, which to some may be offensive but to ones like myself find it really funny. I like how if it were to not be this cast the movie would have been a bust! The movie is now on DVD and OnDemand ! Thanks and enjoy ! — J.T.
“12 Years a Slave” (2013) is a British American Drama Historical film, also based on the true story written in 1853 titled “Twelve Years a Slave” by Solomon Northup. Solomon was a free African American in New York who is kidnapped when on a trip to DC, and sold into the slave trade. The movie is directed by Steve McQueen and stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Lupita Nyong’o, Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Paul Giamatti, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Dano, and Sarah Paulson. The music was very good and done by Hans Zimmer, who also is known for doing the music for “The Dark Knight”(2008), “Inception”(2010),and “The Lion King”(1994).
So like before Solomon Northup(Ejiofor) is a free African American with two kids and a wife residing in Saratoga New York, where he is a very good musician. Two gentlemen invite Solomon to DC for a music gig that would pay very good money for only two weeks work. He takes the offer and gets basically drugged at the pub and wakes up in chains and realizes what has happened….he is now a slave, owned by another man for the next 12 years, this movie tells of his journeys.
This film was very powerful and brings out a lot of different emotions for the audience, personally I have a whole new outlook on American history as it sees to pride itself off of the past of our founding fathers, who in fact had slaves. Seeing the way the African American men and women and even children were treated were just outrageous and heart wrenching. Sometimes finding myself cringing and squinting my eyes shut to the harsh violent whippings that do not hold back on graphic violence and showing it in detail, with blood and skin flying off backs of slaves like it was butter. It made me sick to think this is how people, humans at that, were being treated. This film was a hug eye opener and I think every should see this. I saw it on AppleTV but it can also be found at a Redbox near you and ONDemand from right in your living room. Thanks and have a good one !! — J.T.
“Divergent” (2014) is a Action-Adventure film directed by Neil Burger and just released into theaters March of this year. The movie stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, and Kate Winslet. I went to go see the movie right here at the Salisbury movie theater. Before going to see the movie, I never really saw any commercials or trailers on TV or even clicked one on IMBd or looked on youtube. So I was not sure what to except and hoping I was not wasting 12 dollars because going to a movie theater now a days is like a dinner date, your flat broke after. Also I told my friends I was going to see it and they said “dude it is a waste of money” or “it is going to be like another version of the hunger games” so my feelings were very mixed going into the movie….
Basically its a futuristic setting where everyone is classified and organized by “fractions” which is like the social status pyramid for the society they all live in. Each “fraction” has its own special trait that, that all those in that fraction has which make each fraction different. You take a test which determines which fraction you should choose but you make your own decision at this huge cereomny that everyone attends. Tris (Woodley) is what they call “Divergent” which means the test does not work, it is very rare to be a Divergent but must not tell anyone. She can be found out, for the leader of all the fractions (Winslet) is out to kill all Divergents and start a new world order.
I do not want to give out anymore with it still being in theaters. It was actually very good, the acting was great, the plot was very good and well written. I heard its actually based of a novel series, I personally have not read it but heard it was a best seller. The soundtrack of the movie was very well put together as well, it made the action and the scenes more intense through out the film. It is a must see and for sure do not wait until the DVD, take the advantage of the huge screen and great speakers at your local theater!! Thanks and hope you enjoy !!
“ A Lonely Place to Die” (2011) is thriller directed by Julian Gilbey that stars Sean Harris, Melissa George, Ed Speleers, Kate Magowan, Karel Roden, and Eamonn Walker. I found this gem home on break surfing Netflix in search of a movie and saw the title and picked it for some reason. It starts out with very nice scenic and capturing views of the Scottish Highlands where friends find joy and a rush in hiking and rock climbing. While hiking through the woods one of the five friends here something and keeps hearing it and then finally the group finds what to appears to be a metal pipe coming from the ground which is for breathing. The group goes into panic mode and starts to dig up the grass and moss and find its a box about 2 feet under ground nailed shut with just the pipe exposing any light into the box. Once they finally get the top piece of wood off they find a young girl who has been buried alive basically.
The group decides it that three should head down the river with the girl while the other two run and battle extreme terrain and conditions in order to reach the closet village to call for a helicopter to rescue this girl. It never sat right with me once they found this girl in the middle of no where, with no explanation and plus the fact she cannot speak english which makes it extra hard for the group to communicate with her and gain her trust. This movie picks up and pretty much stays a steady edge of your seat rate from here on out. This girl was kidnapped and being held for a ransom, the kidnappers are not happy this happened and start to hunt and murder the group one by one. It is a game of survival. It was a very good movie that had me guessing the whole time and I never solved it until the end. If you have Netflix please take a chance to see this !!! Thanks ! — J.T.
